Book Discussion Group

Wednesday, April 3, 2024 - 4:00pm

Book Discussion Group feature: The Latehomecomer.

The April selection is The Latehomecomer: A Hmong Family Memoir by Kao Kalia Yang. Beginning in the 1970s, the Hmong were being massacred for their collaboration with the U.S. during the Vietnam War, and thousands of families made the journey from the war-torn jungles of Laos to the overcrowded refugee camps of Thailand and onward to America. Yang recounts the harrowing story of her family’s narrow escape into Thailand (where Yang was born in a refugee camp), and then the journey to America and the challenging adaptation to a new place and language upon their arrival in St. Paul, Minnesota.

Pick up a copy at the front desk or drive-thru. The group meets the first Wednesday of each month. New members always welcome. For ages 18+.

May 1 selection: Demon Copperhead by Barbara Kingsolver.
